How long does it take from start to finish
to record and mix a song?
It depends in large part on the instrumentation of the song and
the production value you want to achieve. For example, it
will definitely be quicker to mix a guitar and vocal track than
a full band track. Also, it will be faster to mix a song
as a demo than as an album cut because you can be less specific
with reverb and EQ, and maybe a little looser with timing, intonation
and levels. The tracking (recording) of parts will probably
go quicker on a demo too. I always try to keep things moving.
How many tracks do you have?
Pro Tools 24/ Mix is an up to 64-track 24-bit (better than CD-quality)
system. The track count depends on various factors such
as how many hard
drives are connected and how. However, there are various
ways to get around
any track limitation if necessary, so unlike before the digital
age, there
will be no constraints on track count. FYI A basic full
band demo will
usually require about 16 tracks, but for complex arrangements
or pieces with
multiple stereo synthesizer sounds, more tracks may be needed.
How good is your soundproofing?
The room has double walls, ceiling, and floor. The door is treated
with a soundproofing kit. There is only one window. Complete soundproofing
is hard to come by, but the setup here works great for recording
purposes.

Can I record live drums at your studio?
Yes, there is a Pearl Masters Studio kit with top-of-the-line
Zildjian cymbals. The drum set is fully mic-ed with up to 8 microphones.
Do you do drum programming?
Yes, it's a specialty.
Can I record a full band live at your studio?
Yes, absolutely, although there may be some "bleed"
depending on the instrumentation.
How long does it take to learn Pro Tools?
Learning Pro Tools is an ongoing process, just like learning a
musical instrument. One can gain basic competency within
a few years and then keep moving from there.
Can I get a CD master of my recording?
Yes, of course.
top
Can I duplicate CDs at your studio?
Yes. Small or large runs are do-able. For very large
quantities, Ethan Fiks Music has an agreement with Disc Makers
and one other facility, which entitles us to discount rates.
